fig.09BREATHING OUT A SUBCONSCIOUS
Inspire, from the Latin word “inspirare”: to breathe into.
I would describe myself as a somewhat careless person. Precision does not come naturally to me, but it is a rewarding effort. As an alternative to the application of my own thoughts, I’ve learned instead to listen to what a medium has to say, and try not to fight it.
TOOTHLESS is a product of learning the lost wax carving technique. Not once did I sketch for TOOTHLESS — the wax had plenty to show me.
I got sucked into hand carving, utilizing different types of dremel bits to create intricate shapes, without losing sight of its volume. Learning turned into a series of meditative states. Midway, I noticed how the grooves resembled gums and open cavities-- as if teeth had been freshly pulled out.

Immediately, it evoked a visceral reaction I previously encountered in my (apparently common and textbook) stress dreams. Making with our hands means to engage our senses, recognize patterns, and receive sensuous feedback. By doing so, we further form our understanding of ourselves and digest emotions. In exchange, our hands have the potential to verbalize those thoughts -- breathing out tangible human feelings through an inanimate medium.

The human mind is able to recreate sensations that they’ve never experienced during their waking life: teeth falling out, hair endlessly growing from head to toe, falling without ever landing, giving birth, etc.
We’ve all scavenged through many archaic dream interpretation blogs to satisfy the itch of understanding oneself…
“Popularized by psychiatrist Carl Jung, teeth falling out could represent rebirth or transformation. The adult teeth come in afterwards. A sign of growth or positive change...”[1]
TOOTHLESS represents Rebirth.
I thought it’d be nice to share this state of metamorphosis to the people around me, far away from me, and hopefully pass down after me.
